Ronda Rousey targets UFC return this year despite hitting Hollywood

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has said she will return to the UFC in 2016 but has yet to decide a date or location for her next fight with the sports bosses. The former UFC world champion hasn’t fought since her shock defeat to Holly Holm last year. At the time, Rousey said that it would take six months to fully recover from the injuries she suffered during the fight. The sport suspended her from any competitions for 180 days for her own health after she suffered multiple blows to the head and needed surgery on her lip.

Ronda Rousey targets UFC return this year despite hitting Hollywood

Her return was expected to be at the landmark UFC 200 event in July, but she has now ruled out that fight as she will be busy filming for new remake of the classic Patrick Swayze film Roadhouse. The film was suppose to finish filming by July, but has been hit by delays after the director dropped out of the project.

So whilst Rousey is busy, Holm has been given another competitor to defend her belt against. Miesha Tate has been chosen as the person brave enough to try and take the bantamweight belt off of Holm at UFC 197 in March later this year. Bookmakers and fans are all pretty unanimous that Tate doesn’t have much of a chance against Holm and betting site Betway have given her odds of 11/4 to take the title. But the bookmakers have been proven wrong before as Holm demonstrated against Rousey, so it could be worth backing Tate especially if it’s with a free bet. If you’re still nervous on taking a risk on the relatively unknown star, then you can register now at Betway and get a free bet for the next fight and bet knowing you have nothing to lose.

So when will Rousey return to the sport, and when will we get that rematch that everybody wants to see? Well you might be waiting a long time if you want to use your free bet on that rematch. The fighter has just reportedly signed up to star alongside ex-SNL comedian Tina Fey in another film which could take her away from the octagon ring for even more time. The UFC star is seemingly enjoying the acting lifestyle at the moment, as she has just filmed a Bud Light advert with fellow actors Amy Schumer and Seth Rogan. She has also been honoured by being one of only a selected few to host an episode of this season’s comedy show Saturday Night Live.

But many don’t doubt that Rousey will return to the ring more determined than ever sometime soon. In an interview with TMZ, she said that she was talking to the organisers and that she would definitely fight in 2016. When asked if she’d want a rematch against Holm, she responded without hesitation that the rematch was the one thing she wanted more than anything. Although the odds of her winning that match will be a lot slimmer in comparison to the first battle, a lot of fans would still struggle to bet against her even if it was a free bet. Although she might be enjoying Hollywood now, she has shown she is a born fighter who will not give up anytime soon.
