UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suffered an injury and has been forced to pull out of his highly anticipated title rematch against Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 197 later this month.

BJPenn.com‘s report on Friday was followed up by MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani. UFC officials have yet to confirm the news.

Daniel Cormier injured, out of UFC 197 title fight with Jon Jones

Cormier and Jones fought at the beginning of 2015, at UFC 182. Jones won a wide unanimous decision, defending his belt successfully, but was stripped of his belt in April after being involved in a hit-and-run accident. Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 to earn the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship, and has since defended it against Alexander Gustafsson.

The law has surrounded Jones’ life for the past year; earlier this week he was arrested for possibly violating his probation, but was allowed to compete later this month by a judge, yesterday.

It is unknown at this time whether a replacement will be sought for the light heavyweight main event, or if Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo will be elevated to the headliner.

UFC 197 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 23.
