Ovince Saint Preux steps in for Cormier, takes on Jones for Interim Belt

It was announced on April 1 that Daniel Cormier was forced out of his UFC 197 light heavyweight title battle against Jon Jones due to injury. On Saturday April 2, the UFC replaced Cormier with Ovince Saint Preux and made the bout against Jones for the interim 205-pound belt.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”

Saint Preux (19-7) has won eight of his last 10 fights, with six of those coming inside the distance. Most recently OSP defeated Rafael Cavalcante at UFC Fight Night 82 in February.

Jones (21-1) never really lost his title — he was stripped following a hit and run incident last April. This will be Bones’ first fight since defeating Cormier in January of last year.

UFC 197 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 23.
