A welterweight matchup between Matt MacGrath and Brian Cobb is targeted for Fight Night 2, which takes place later this year. MacGrath confirmed the news to MMASucka.com on Monday.
MacGrath (18-8) is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, which includes recent decisions over Jesse Ronson and Mike Hill. He was in talks with Bellator MMA to fight at Bellator 162 in Cedar Park, Texas on Sept. 16, but the bout did not come to fruition. “Not hearing anything from Bellator and losing patience,” he told MMASucka.com. The 36-year-old’s last loss was to current UFC fighter Nordine Taleb in 2012.
Matt MacGrath vs. Brian Cobb targeted for Fight Night 2: Medicine Hat
Cobb (20-9) is currently riding a two-fight losing skid. He fought Danny Navarro in the main event of Tachi PF 28 earlier this month and dropped a second-round submission. Prior to that, he hadn’t fought since 2013 when he lost to current WSOF champ Justin Gaethje. The San Jose, Calif., native’s last victory came against Ronys Torres at WSOF 1 in late 2012.
Fight Night 2 takes place live from the Canalta Centre in Medicine Hat, Alta., on Oct. 28. In the main event, bantamweight up-and-comer Jesse Arnett fights a to-be-determined opponent. Longtime veterans Kendall Grove and Joe Riggs are also on the card.
