According to TMZ, Robbie Lawler has pulled out of his UFC 205 bout against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The two fan favourites were set to compete at the UFC’s debut show in New York City this upcoming November.

Robbie Lawler Reportedly Out of UFC 205 Bout Against Donald Cerrone

This news is coming just two days after UFC President Dana White announced the bout. On September 7th, White confirmed to CBS Sports that the two men had signed on for UFC 205 in New York.

This news comes as a blow to many fans as both Lawler and Cerrone are two massive fan favourites for their entertaining fighting styles and unique personalities. It is unclear as to the reason for Lawler to withdraw himself from the bout two months before the event. What is also unclear is what the UFC intends to in terms of finding a replacement or rescheduling the bout.

With the return of Georges St-Pierre stalling due to contract negotiation differences, the UFC could potentially reschedule Lawler vs. Cerrone to UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada. A bout that could very easily be the headliner or co-main event. Of course, without knowing the extent of Lawler’s reasoning, it is entirely possible for the UFC and/or Donald Cerrone to try and seek out a replacement opponent for “Cowboy”.

Lawler is coming off of a first-round KO loss to UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley and Donald Cerrone is riding a three fight win streak, winning 11 of his last 12 bouts.
