November 15, 2015 was the last time former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey entered the Octagon, but on December 30, 2016 the “Rowdy” one will return and it will be for a shot at the title against current queen bee Amanda Nunes.

Rousey vs. Nunes will serve as the UFC 207 main event in Las Vegas.

The announcement was made by UFC President Dana White on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd on FS1.

Rousey (12-1) had the first blemish of her career at UFC 193, as she was knocked out by Holly Holm to lose her title. Prior to that bout, the 29-year-old was on a twelve fight winning streak, with six of those being under the UFC banner.

Nunes (13-4) is 6-1 in the UFC and earned the title when she finished Miesha Tate at UFC 200 in July.   After losing to Cat Zingano in 2014, Nunes has since ridden a four-fight winning streak.

White made it clear as to why Rousey will get an immediate shot at Nunes’ gold on FS1, “The thing is Ronda Rousey has been the biggest, baddest female fighter on the planet now since we got into women’s fighting. Ronda had a bad loss, obviously, and lost her title, but she’s still Ronda Rousey at the end of the day. When you talk about bad match-ups for Ronda, it’s just about Ronda coming back. Everybody wins or loses. It happens.”

UFC 207 goes down on December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. No other bouts have been announced for the year-end fight card.
