Alliance MMA’s Darrion Caldwell defends his bantamweight championship against a very deserving challenger in the form of Leandro Higo at Bellator 195.
The news was announced by Bellator MMA on Tuesday.
Darrion Caldwell defends bantamweight title against Leandro Higo at Bellator 195
Caldwell (10-1, 1NC) has won two-straight since the huge upset loss vs. Joe Taimanglo in July of 2016. He first rebounded with a stellar win over the aforementioned Taimanglo, earning a title opportunity in the process.
When the time came for him to have his long-awaited shot at gold, Caldwell exceeded everyone’s expectations. Putting together an absolutely fantastic performance and defeating the reigning champion; Eduardo Dantas.
Higo (18-3) entered the Bellator MMA ranks earlier this year after championship wins in RFA & LFA. He made his short-notice debut vs. champion Eduardo Dantas and put together a stellar performance despite losing via split decision in the non-title contest.
Much like Caldwell, Higo also earned his title shot with a win over Joe Taimanglo, recently defeating him at Bellator 184 in October – the same card in which Caldwell bested Dantas.
No other fights are confirmed for the card.
Bellator 195 will likely be headlined by the bantamweight title clash and is set to take place inside the WinStar World Casino in Oklahoma on March 2.
