23-year-old Jake Matthews picked up his sixth UFC win tonight at UFC 221, taking a decision win over Li Jingliang after three high paced rounds.

Matthews showed the improvements in his striking throughout the bout, as well as his always excellent grappling, but the fight will likely be remembered for what happened in the second round.

Matthews seemed to be moments away from finishing the fight, cranking a tight guillotine he had caught his Chinese opponent in, but Jingliang managed to escape after blatantly gauging the eyes of the young Australian.

Matthews handled the altercation maturely, and continued to fight without complaint, eventually walking away with a convincing decision victory.

The 23-year-old Australian moves to 12-3 in MMA, scoring his first decision win in the UFC. Jingliang tasted defeat for the first time since 2015. In the UFC, he has amassed a 6-2 UFC record, but had his four fight win streak snapped tonight.
