Women’s Flyweight Fighter “Meatball” Molly McCann conquered what has been a dream of hers ever since stepping into an MMA gym.
Molly McCann impresses in Liverpool
Exactly five years to the day she walked into a mixed martial arts gym, the proud Liverpudlian roared, and once again put on a stellar performance in her home town.
After seeing Ronda Rousey submit Liz Carmouche at UFC 157, she decided she would try her hand at MMA, and she certainly hasn’t disappointed. Don’t call her the next Ronda Rousey, though. Instead, call her the first “Meatball” Molly McCann.
Facing a familiar face in Bryony Tyrell – a friend, and former sparring partner – McCann stayed incredibly composed, and abandoned her usually wild, all guns blazing approach, and instead started to pick Tyrell apart early.
Midway through round one it was clear Tyrell was no match for the 28-year-old on the feet, and after a few takedown attempts, it seemed that it was only a matter of time. In the second, McCann began to land harder, and more consistently, and before long, a vicious flurry had Tyrell turning away, and the referee called the fight.
Molly dropped to her knees in the center of the cage, and took in the moment, before going to celebrate on top of the cage, and seemingly on top of the world. A fairytale moment for the hometown favorite, who now can call herself the first ever Cage Warriors Women’s Flyweight Champion.
