The TUF 27 TUFtermath
It’s time for episode six of TUF Season 27! This week on The Ultimate Fighter, Team Miocic will be looking to build off the victory of Mike Trizano and build momentum. In an effort to do so, they will be sending Suman Mokhtarian out to do battle with Team Cormier’s Ricky Steele. Additionally, defeated fighters will be looking to take over Luis Pena’s spot after injury has forced him from competition!
The Big Three
#1) How to Make Enemies and Infuriate People – Dulani Perry of Team Miocic, in an effort to stir up future opponent Tyler Diamond, ended up enraging every other member of Team Cormier instead. Luis Pena, on one leg, had to be held back from going outside to fight Perry.
#2) Looking for a way back – Jay Cucienello made a point of seeking out Dana White to ask for Luis Pena’s spot, and made sure everybody knew it. Cucienello made a good pitch to Dana, but it was not immediately clear what would happen next. Especially after John Gunther made a similar pitch after this week’s fight.
#3) Injury Bug Returns? – After this episode’s fight, Ricky Steele went for x-rays on a potentially broken foot. This could potentially be the second Team Cormier fighter lost to injury.
The Stock Report
Stock Hold – Ricky Steele. While Steele is clearly coachable, his point-fighting striking style will eventually lead to a brick wall against higher echelon fighters unless he is able to develop stopping power.
The Fight
The fight was a tepid, two round kickboxing affair, with Ricky Steele using his long-range striking to keep Suman Mokhtarian at bay for the bulk of the fight. Steele would go on to win by unanimous decision.
