The TUF 27 TUFtermath: Episode 8

The TUF 27 TUFtermath

We’ve now arrived at episode eight of TUF Season 27! This week on The Ultimate Fighter, Tyler Diamond of Team Cormier is set to wage war with Team Miocic loudmouth Dulani Perry. As well, the semi-final drama continues as we wait to find out just who will make it into the semi-finals due to the injury bug!

The Big Three

#1) Overtrained to the Maximum – After a trip to the hospital, it was found that Richie Smullen had over-trained to such an extent that his muscle fibers were breaking down and being absorbed into his bloodstream. This put his body into shutdown mode. This should be a warning to all young fighters about the dangers of over-training.

#2) Dashed Hopes – Suman Mokhtarian had hoped to get back into the competition due to the rash of injuries that took a pair of Team Cormier winners down. Unfortunately, he received some bad news when attempting to get medical clearance. Suman’s ACL was completely torn, ending his time on the show and possibly his 2018 as far competition goes.

#3) Losing Upwards – Dana White was not interested in bringing back any of the losing members of coach Daniel Cormier’s team. This means that only Stipe Miocic’s charges were eligible. In the end, Jay Cucciniello and John Gunter were brought back.

The Stock Report

None. There was no fight.

The Fight

Round one of Tyler Diamond versus Dulani Perry was an absolute mauling. Diamond had the self-proclaimed “Fight God” on his back within the first 20 seconds and kept him there for the rest of the round. Perry was on the defensive for nearly the entire round, struggling to keep Diamond from advancing position and raining down bloodying ground and pound. This was easily a 10-8 round.

The second stanza saw Dulani Perry fall to the mat within the first ten seconds, flopping down after an awkward shove/punch from Tyler Diamond. After that, the mauling continued with signs of hope few and far between for Perry. An attempted lumberjack sweep and a micro-scramble were the closest Perry came to getting back into the fight. When Diamond allowed Dulani to roll to his knees, the Team Alpha Male blue-chipper cinched a guillotine choke and submitted his opponent from Team Miocic at 2:29.

The semi-final matches have now been set. John Gunther and Mike Trizano of Team Miocic will square off next week in the first of the lightweight bouts. The other 155 lbs. match will see Joe Gianetti take on Allan Zuniga. Brad Katona will fights Bryce Mitchell in the first of the featherweight semi-finals. Meanwhile, Tyler Diamond versus Jay Cucciniello rounds out the other side of the bracket. Keep it locked to MMASucka.com for the next TUFtermath!
