The UFC are working on setting up the long awaited rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, according to UFC president Dana White. The two elite strikers fought once before in 2014 at the featherweight class, with McGregor winning by first round knockout.

After that, both went their separate directions. McGregor would win the UFC featherweight belt by defeating Jose Aldo and then moved up to higher weights to fight Nate Diaz and Eddie Alvarez. Poirier would also move up to lightweight, building his own resume with three victories over UFC champions as well as a knockout win over current UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Both would suffer submission losses to the current UFC undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor vs Poirier 2 – Negotiations

While Poirier has been enthusiastic about the prospect of a McGregor rematch for some time, McGregor first bandied about the idea himself only recently. On a twitter thread where McGregor also discussed the possibility of a boxing match with Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao, he challenged Poirier to a charity exhibition MMA match in support of Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. Today, Barstool Sports released an interview with Dana White where he discussed the possibility of McGregor vs Poirier 2, mentioning that he “offered Dustin and Conor a fight, we’re waiting to hear back from both of them.”
