ONE: Reign of Dynasties II Recap

ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES II, a previously recorded event, wrapped up on Friday, October 16, from Singapore with a ONE Super Series Kickboxing main event.

Hiroki Akimoto erased all doubt that he could move up in weight and be successful by knocking off #3-ranked bantamweight kickboxing contender “Muay Thai Boy” Zhang Chenglong by split decision.

As evident by the decision, it was a closely-contested battle. However, the speed of the Japanese athlete proved to win the day in the three-round main event. Zhang performed well and had his moments, but two of the three judges tipped their cards toward Akimoto.

Zhang’s older brother found himself on the losing side of a decision as well in Singapore.

Sagetdao “Deadly Star” Petpayathai got the decision nod over Zhang “Bamboo Sword” Chunyu, the older brother of “Muay Thai Boy,” in the co-main event.

The Muay Thai legend returned to ONE Super Series action and looked as though he never left. Although Zhang made it to the final bell, the match was never in doubt. Sagetdao’s performance was an instructional video of everything right to do in a Muay Thai bout.

There were two mixed martial arts contests on the card, and both went the distance.

In the first of the matches, Ryuto “Dragon Boy” Sawada moved past China’s Miao Li Tao in a strawweight bout. Sawada had a quality showing with some early submission attempts. Miao was able to get in some offense late in the bout, but it was not enough as Sawada had already amassed a lead through the first two rounds.

Keanu Subba returned to action after 17 months on the shelf due to injury in a featherweight tilt against Tang Kai.

Tang brought the action to Subba from the opening bell and smothered him with pressure. Subba’s defense and heart were on full display throughout the bout, but his energy was slowly drained by the Chinese athlete’s constant forward pressure.

The Chinese athlete showed crisp striking en route to the unanimous decision victory.
