Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood has been booked for UFC 257. Eye is looking to bounce back after going 1-2 in her last 3 bouts, after a highlight-reel knockout from the champion Valentina Shevchenko (19-3). Eye has struggled to recover in her most recent fight she was ground out by Cynthia Calvillo (9-1-1) in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Eye vs. Calvillo.

Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood set for UFC 257

Joanne Calderwood lost her title shot to current title challenger Jennifer Maia (18-6-1). Maia used Calderwood’s early aggression to her advantage to get a submission late in the first round. Maia will be taking on current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255 on November, 21.

UFC 257 is the alleged card Conor McGregor (22-4) wanted for the Dustin Poirier (26-6) rematch. The matchup could put Calderwood right back in title contention. It may be more difficult for Eye to sell the rematch. If Eye can squash all other contenders, she could climb her way back to the top.

This may be an important development in the shallow waters of the flyweight division. This is especially true if Katlyn Chookagian (14-3) can beat former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade (20-8). Without new blood in the division, it is quite possible the winner of this fight could challenge Shevchenko soon, particularly if it is Calderwood. Eye will probably have to win at least one more fight to challenge for the title.

The dynamics of the Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood is fairly clear. Eye will likely have a great deal of success if she manages to impose a wrestling heavy game. Calderwood has the crisper boxing should be able to outstrike Eye. Calderwood seems to have momentum on her side, but Eye has proven that she deserves to be at the top of the flyweight division. Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood is booked for the 21st of January 2021.
