Dana White’s Contender Series will return tonight for the first of its last three episodes of the year. Gloria de Paula tested positive for Covid-19 so her fight with Pauline Macias will be postponed to November 17th. Oscar Ivan Cota also had to withdraw from his fight with Jared Vanderaa. Vanderaa will now be fighting Henry Hunsucker. KB Bhullar was forced to withdraw from his bout with Bruno Oliveira. Oliveira will now be fighting 2-0, Carlos Ulberg.

DWCS Week 8 will be headlined by Carlos Ulberg taking on Bruno Silva. There will be a total of four fights on the card. It will be shown live on ESPN+ and will start at 8 PM/5 PM ETPT. Due to the lower number of fights on the card, it will be interesting to monitor how many fighters are awarded UFC contracts after the fights. Part of that, as always, will depend on how the fighters perform. But with only four fights, don’t be surprised to see four fighters offered contracts tonight if they score impressive victories.

DWCS Week 8 Results

Carlos Ulberg def. Bruno Oliveira via knockout in the first round.

Summary: Both fighters had a feeling out period to start the fight. That only lasted a minute or two. Eventually Ulberg landed some big hooks that put Oliveira away.

Ignacio Bahamondes def. Edson Gomez* via knockout in the second round.

Summary: Bahamondes was able to land leg kicks and jabs at will because of his reach advantage. Gomez did a decent job getting inside in the first round landing some good shots. Bahamondes was able to turn up the volume in the second and finally landed a front kick that knocked Gomez out cold.

Luis Saldana def. Vince Murdock via TKO in the third round.

Summary: Luis Saldana was able to out-strike Murdock the entire fight. Mostly due to his nine inch reach advantage. In the third round, Saldana was able to land some hard shots and eventually dropped Murdock with a front kick.

Jared Vanderaa def. Henry Hunsucker Via TKO in the first round.

Summary: Vanderaa was the bigger fighter but Hunsucker came out way faster. Hunsucker landed a bunch of big power punches. Vanderaa landed a takedown and was able to use his weight to hold Hunsucker down and finish him with ground and pound.

*Gomez missed weight, weighing in at 174 pounds for a welterweight bout. Because of the miss, Gomez will forfeit 20% of his purse from the fight to his opponent.

All four winners were awarded contracts.

My name is Michael Lynch. I’m originally from Long Island, NY, but I reside in Columbia, Sc. I’ve been covering MMA for almost two years now. I’ve covered events such as Island fights and the PFL. I also have a YouTube channel where I do fight companions and UFC fight previews. I have recently started to train in mma and would like to have my first fight in 2020. I believe that as a journalist I need to experience what these fighters go threw, in order to understand their POV.
