UFC 256
The UFC 256 headliner was scheduled to be Amanda Nunes’ second defence of her featherweight belt. In her last bout, she dominated Felicia Spencer to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 250.
At the moment, it appears that Dana White and the UFC are not planning on replacing Nunes. One option could have been to have Anderson compete for an interim title but due to a lack of appropriate competition, it is understood that the bout will be rescheduled for 2021. Anderson confirmed this in a recent Tweet:
Wishing Amanda a speedy recovery 🙏🏻UFC are rescheduling the bout for a date early next year.
The goal remains the same 👊🏻 We'll be ready.. https://t.co/APZt4zUkS0

Headliner?
Although the headline fight has dropped out of UFC 256 with Amanda Nunes’ withdrawal, there is still options as to who could headline the card. Already scheduled to go five rounds are men’s bantamweight champion, Petr Yan and #1 contender, Aljamain Sterling. We are currently unaware as to whether these two men will be bumped up to the main event.
Another potential option would be to book an ambitious fight at lightweight. A certain Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier had agreed to a charity fight in December. This was before Dana White confirmed that the UFC are looking to book McGregor vs. Poirier 2 in early January. Will either man be ready for the UFC’s December 12th card? As of yet, it is unclear but if this one were to be made, it would set the MMA world alight with excitement.
