In a quick turn of events, UFC Vegas 16 has been reduced to just eight fights as three of the original 11-fight card has been cancelled just hours before the start of the event. The fights cancelled were: Movsar Evloev vs Nate Landwehr, Montana De La Rosa vs Taila Santos and Cody Durden vs Jimmy Flick due to positive COVID-19 tests. Professional MMA bettor MagicM MMA first reported the cancellation of fights.
UFC Vegas 16 Loses Three Fights
Due to one of De La Rosa’s cornermen testing positive, the fight was removed out of an abundance of caution, per MMA Fighting. According to Combate, Movsar Evloev vs Nate Landwehr was cancelled after Evloev tested positive for COVID-19. Both fights were slated for the main card.
At this current time it is unsure which camp tested positive for the Cody Durden vs Jimmy Flick, however the plan is to rebook the fight for UFC’s Dec. 19 event, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
In recent weeks, past UFC events have been severely affected by the pandemic. Last week, the UFC lost its headliner of Curtis Blaydes vs Derrick Lewis for UFC Vegas 15 after Blaydes tested positive for COVID-19, just a day before the event.
Saturday’s UFC Fight Night will be headlined by Jack Hermansson vs Marvin Vettori after Kevin Holland tested positive. Holland was originally supposed to fight Hermansson in the main event.
