Daniel Straus, a former Bellator featherweight champion, finds himself in hot water after an alleged incident with his partner resulted in a physical confrontation. He was involved in an argument via text with his partner about alleged infidelity and then drove to her place of business. Once there, the argument moved to the parking lot where Straus and his partner shoved each other and after attempting to distance herself by getting in her car, Straus is said to have repeatedly punched her until she was on the ground.
Daniel Straus held on 100,000.00 bond
Daniel Straus is a decorated multi-time world champion and made his comeback to MMA after a serious motorcycle accident in 2017. It took two years of rehabilitation to recover from his injuries and make his way back into the cage. He has gone 1-1 since his return, losing in his last outing to Derek Campos.
He won his first featherweight world title defeating Pat Curran at Bellator 106 in 2013. He would drop the title in a rematch. He became featherweight champion again at Bellator 134 by defeating Patricio Pitbull. He once again lost the title in a rematch.
Daniel Straus has had past issues with the law. Before he was a professional fighter, he was jailed for three years for robbery. He was also arrested in 2013 on a myriad of charges consisting of driving with a suspended license, being in possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, more than 3 grams of synthetic cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Ecstasy.
This latest charge is seemingly the most serious. He was booked into jail Friday in Broward County, FL, and was given a 100,000 dollar bond. As of Monday afternoon, he was still jailed. His attorney asked for a lowering of the bond but the judge has yet to meet those requests.
