Grant Dawson has one blemish on his professional record and is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak. One would think the 27-year-old was on the road to superstardom with five wins in a row under the UFC banner, but that is not the case at this point in time.
In fact, he was told quite the opposite leading up to his upcoming return to lightweight match-up at UFC on ESPN 21 bout against Leonardo Santos.
Grant Dawson: ‘I’m a puzzle piece’
“Basically what happened, how it was explained to me was, basically after this fight I’ll be able to fight a lot more,” Dawson explained to James Lynch for MMASucka.com. “How they basically said it was, I’m a puzzle piece, that’s trying to fit into a puzzle that I don’t belong in.
So they really gotta figure out where to put me. I feel like with a big win over Santos, it’s going to be legends and rankings from here on out. So I feel like I’ll be able to have more fights in 2021 than I did in 2020.”
Grant Dawson has picked up submission victories in three of his UFC appearances and most recently earned a decision in July of last year against Nad Narimani.
