Islam Makhachev faced off with Drew Dober in the UFC 259 second PPV fight. Both fighters are durable and very competent in the Octagon. Heading into the contest, Makhachev was the betting favorite and it made sense given his vast talent both standing and on the canvas. Dober’s power and durability are his greatest attributes.
Islam Makhachev Dominates Drew Dober at UFC 259
The first round saw some tremendous grappling as Makhachev secured the takedown and advanced position before locking on a very tight armbar. Dober refused to give up and battled it until the end of the round. It didn’t look good for Dober.
The fighters started the second round and Dober was looking to land some shots standing. Makhachev secured another takedown however and once again began to take control on the mat. It was “rinse and repeat” for Makhachev as he dominated Dober on the canvas and in the third round submitted Dober with an Arm Triangle from half guard. Amazing.
After the fight, Makhachev had this to say. “I know, I deserve someone from the top five. I cannot be quiet. I have a seven-fight win streak, give me a top fighter. Give me Tony Ferguson, anyone in the top.” After this performance, he certainly deserves someone at the top.
