The main event at ONE on TNT I was a battle for the flyweight championship between champion Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson.

Both men took the center of the cage to start the opening round. Adriano Moraes utilized his reach advantage, staying on the outside with kicks to keep Johnson at a distance. DJ closed the gap and landed a couple of well-placed knees from the Thai clinch. Moraes looked for a takedown and pulled guard to attack Johnson’s leg. When Johnson fell to his back, Moraes immediately took the top half guard position. The round concluded with Johnson on his back and Moraes pulled down on top.

Moraes seemed to be favoring the kicks, while Johnson pushing forward with punching combinations. Midway through the second round, Moraes capitalized on a flying knee and landed a short right uppercut that put Johnson on his back. Adriano Moraes jumped on top of the former UFC flyweight champion and landed a nasty knee to his head.

The end came at 2:24 of round 2.

“I don’t have a word to describe this moment. We did it,” Moraes explained in his post-fight interview. “I grew up watching DJ fight, he’s a legend bro. I knew exactly his game, you know, he’s a grappler like me, but me and my team, we did the perfect strategy to fight against him.

“I work hard. It’s not a surprise for me, because I work with the best guys in the world and every single day they say to me, ‘Adriano you’re so good.’ But I’m not the best from everyone, I’m just different. I like to have my MMA game and today worked out.”

Moraes (19-3) is now riding a two-fight winning streak. He recaptured the ONE flyweight championship from Geje Eustaquio in his last bout in 2019.
