Brendan Allen on Karl Roberson: ‘We’ve seen him quit, I’ve never quit’

The former LFA middleweight champion, Brendan Allen will look to get back in the win column at UFC 261 against Karl Roberson.

Brendan Allen Says There is No Quit in Him

The 25-year-old was riding a seven-fight winning streak, until his first Octagon blemish in his most recent outing. He fought Sean Strickland and was arguably winning the contest, until he got caught.

Allen feels that that fight should have never gone that way, but definitely has it in his rear-view mirror.

“That I should have f*ck Sean Strickland up,” Brendan Allen told James Lynch for MMASucka.com. “There were just things that I didn’t do. I made the wrong read in the second and I got caught. I always say before every fight, every interview, no matter what, I feel like that’s the only way these guys can beat me, is to catch me. So, he caught me. Nine out of 10 times that fight doesn’t go that way, but that’s the one time that it mattered and he caught me.”

On April 24, Allen will fight for the first time in 2021. His opponent Roberson is 9-3 and has plenty of tools in his toolbelt. However, the Sanford MMA product feels that he will be just fine anywhere the fight plays out.

“I know he’s explosive, I know he’s got pretty good striking, I think he’s got OK takedown defense, bigger guy for a middleweight and seems to be explosive, athletic is pretty much the best words I can use for him though,” said Allen. “I look forward to it, we’ll see what happens fight night, but I don’t think we’re gonna have any real problems or anything like that. I think it’s gonna be just fine.”

When the cage door closes, nothing is set in stone in terms of how a fight will play out. But Brendan Allen knows one thing for certain, there is no quit in his mind.

He doesn’t fight for himself, he fights for a bigger picture and it’s clear to him that you will have to finish him in order to get the job done.

“I don’t have anything really set in stone in my head with how it’s gonna go,” Brendan Allen stated. “I think it’s gonna be a test of wills. I don’t think he wants it as bad as I do. There’s not as much on the line. A lot of guys say that, but it’s hard to really say that from some guys that don’t have families and don’t have mouths to feed and things like that. You might want it, but at the end of the day what do you know about it. Like what is it for? Is it for a want or is it for putting food in your mouth and for your child and for your wife? I know it’s cliche to say, but I don’t think he wants it more than me. We’ve seen him quit, I’ve never quit. I’m not gonna quit. You have to put me to sleep and that’s just how it’s gonna be. I expect him to be fast and my goal is just to win every transition, every scramble, everything, be last and just have fun. I just want to get back to having fun and enjoy the moment. This doesn’t last forever, who knows, and you never know when it’ll be your last one, so I just want to have fun. I want to go do what I know I can do and I feel of course I’ll put him away within three of course. I don’t know how, but I definitely feel like I have full capabilities to do that.”
