The Professional Fighters League returns tonight with PFL 2 2021, which will feature the opening night for the welterweight and light heavyweight divisions. The event will be headlined by a welterweight clash between former UFC title challenger and Bellator champion Rory MacDonald and UFC and Bellator veteran “Curtious” Curtis Millender. Both fighters are seeking to start the season on a high note and make an impression in their new organization.
MacDonald returns for the first time since losing his Bellator title back in October 2019. “The Red King” has only one win in his last four outings, but is still considered one of the top welterweights around. He takes on Millender, who has lost three of this last four, most recently splitting two outings in Bellator.
The PFL 2 2021 co-main event features PFL staple and knockout artist “Bradda Boy” Ray Cooper III taking on Frenchman Jason Ponet. “The Amazonian Samurai” Ponet has had an up-and-down career at lightweight, but is riding a three fight winning streak against Cooper, who returns for the first time since winning the PFL Welterweight Championship for the 2019 season.
The main card is rounded out by two longtime UFC veterans taking on PFL staples, as former World Series of Fighting title challenger Joao Zeferino takes on grizzled veteran Gleison Tibau, and reigning PFL light heavyweight champion Emiliano Sordi takes on kickboxing standout Chris Camozzi.
The PFL 2 2021 preliminary card also features some recognizable names, including the headlining preliminary fight between TUF Brazil 3 champion Antonio Carlos Junior and the ever-entertaining Tom Lawlor. TUF Brazil champion Cezar Ferreira also competes against Dana White Contender Series and UFC vet Nick Roehrick. PFL staples Sadibou Sy and Dan Spohn return as well, facing Nikolay Aleksakhin and Marthin Hamlet Nielsen respectively.
