A beloved member of Xtreme Couture, Kyle Reyes has died at the age of 30.
On August 27, Reyes had reconstructive surgery to repair a torn left bicep. Just one day later, the 22-fight-veteran was found unresponsive. According to a GoFundMe page, which launched on Friday, “his health went downhill” and an infection caused one of his lungs to collapse.
MMA Community Mourns Death of Kyle Reyes
One of his close training partners, Gurdarshan “Saint Lion” Mangat posted the following on his Instagram account, “Today doesn’t feel real. We lost our brother Kyle. I’m still speechless and keep trying to wake myself up from this dream. Keeps hitting me in waves as I plan our future moves only to realize we will have to continue them in the next life. You proved how strangers can become family and even create a stronger bond than some blood family. Your energy was beautiful and I was blessed to have been around it. So many memories in such a short time that got tears flowing today. We were a dream team and so much more to show the world. We pushed each others spirit every opportunity we got to become better versions of ourselves. You were just getting started and was gonna shock the world. Your relationship with your daughter inspired me and motivated me. I would tell my family how amazing and unique it was. Breaks my heart we won’t witness it’s growth but we will watch Kylie carry ur spirit in everything she pursues. We will always have her back and she is forever my family. I love you more than you know my brother. Wish I could have one more round, one more day, one more moment. I will be talking to you in my dreams and I pray you will hear it. You are Foreva my brother and I can’t wait to stand next to you in the next life so we can continue this journey.”
Kyle Reyes (15-7) was born in Guam and made his professional debut in front of his home crowd in 2009. “BOOM” fought UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski under the PXC banner in just the eighth fight of his career.
The featherweight made his USA debut in 2015 and eventually found his home at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Over the course of his career in the United States, Kyle Reyes fought under the Tachi Palace Fights promotion in 2015-2016 and in 2017 made his ACB debut. The 30-year-old was 7-3 over the course of his last 10 fights.
Judging by the emotional posts on social media, Kyle Reyes was not only a teammate but a true friend and family member to every training partner and person he crossed paths with.
