ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong made some major announcements on Wednesday on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.
ONE X Announced
In celebration of ONE’s tenth anniversary, Sityodtong announced ONE X for Sunday, December 5, with three massive bouts.
The first match announced features two pound-for-pound greats competing with a unique ruleset.
ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon will meet Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in a dream superfight with a mixed rule set. The four-round battle will alternate between Muay Thai and mixed martial arts rules.
Before he can make it to December, Rodtang will compete at ONE: First Strike on Friday, October 15, against Daniel Puertas in a kickboxing bout. ONE: First Strike will air live across all Bleacher Report platforms at 7:00 a.m. EST/4:00 a.m. PST.
Two of the most exciting men clashing under special rules should give fans everything they want, and it will challenge both men to be at their best against all-time greats.
Additionally, Sityodtong announced two amazing World Title bouts.
ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes will meet his top challenger, fan-favorite John “Hands of Stone” Lineker. The title tilt is one of the most well-matched, high-level bouts of 2021.
Finally, the leader of ONE announced the ONE Featherweight World Title is on the line when reigning king Thanh Le puts his gold on the line against Garry Tonon.
It is a striker vs. grappler matchup on paper, but both men have made incredible strides in the other’s area of expertise. It is a compelling matchup to see who can impose their will on the other.
ONE is promising to add more to the event as it looks to close out 2021 in epic fashion. The ONE X card is already a can’t-miss spectacular with the two World Championship bouts and the meeting between Johnson and Rodtang.
December 5 will be a date to circle on the calendar.
