After winning the 2019 ONE Featherweight World Grand Prix, Giorgio Petrosyan clinched his status as one of the greatest of all time. But the work is not done. The #1-ranked featherweight contender now has his eyes set on the main event at ONE: First Strike on Friday, October 15.

Standing opposite him will be #2-ranked Superbon, and the inaugural ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Championship will hang in the balance.

“He is a super tough opponent. Everyone knows that he is very good with his legs. His technique is amazing. He has really good timing and is a well-rounded athlete,” Petrosyan told ONE Championship.

“I just need to keep the focus on what I have to do. I think my boxing skills are better. But if you don’t show it inside the ring, it doesn’t mean anything. Let’s see.”

Unbeaten in the last six years, Petrosyan seems nearly unstoppable. His technique is peerless, and his execution is flawless. But it doesn’t mean he takes anybody lightly, and Superbon has given him a little extra motivation heading into their October clash.

The Thai star has been chirping leading into the match, and it has caught the attention of the top-ranked star.

Superbon claimed that Petrosyan ducked a prior opportunity to compete against him. A claim “The Doctor” refutes strongly.

“He is saying a lot of [nonsense] right now. I do not need anyone to protect me,” Petrosyan says.

“Every fighter out there wants to fight against me. And, of course, if they receive short notice of 20 days, they want to fight because they have nothing to lose.”

“With less than a month’s notice, they offered me Superbon [the first time]. That’s why I rejected the offer, only because of bad timing. If I was afraid of him, I wouldn’t have accepted this fight.”

Now the matchup is officially on, and it is for the highest prize in the game. Both men are locked in and focused on accomplishing their goal to add the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Championship to their mantle.

The Armenian star is ready to shine with claiming the gold being his only concern.

“When I step into the ring, I don’t joke around. I don’t need to put on a show. I only care about hitting hard and bringing home the belt,” Petrosyan says.

“I have no final message [for Superbon]. We will meet in the ring.”

ONE: First Strike airs on Bleacher Report platforms on Friday, October 15, at 8:30 a.m. EST/5:30 a.m. PST.
