In the weeks leading up to his debut at UFC 268, Welterweight prospect, Ian Garry promised fans that it would be a night to remember in New York.
The 23-year-old Irishman kept true to that promise with a stunning KO of Jordan Williams in the closing seconds of the first round. From the opening bell, Garry, of Sanford MMA got off to a rocky start as Williams was able to apply pressure and land cleaner and more frequent strikes that appeared to put the newcomer in murky waters, but after some minor adjustments, Garry was able to showcase the skills that had gotten him to this spot and get the job done.

After his impressive win, Garry took the opportunity to give a nod to fellow countryman, Conor McGregor, whose original statement in his debut paved the way for these moments, and told announcer Joe Rogan “There was one Irish man who took over the UFC. It’s my time now”. See the clip below:

If history is anything to go by, then MMA fans could be in for a real treat at the hands of Garry as he plans to fill a void created by McGregor but has been somewhat absent from the sport in recent years.
Looking ahead, who will Garry face next? How will he address those errors that could have cost him early in his debut? Those are questions for another day, but for now, it is fitting to say that the ‘Future’ looks bright.
