The contracts have not been signed yet but according to UFC officials, the fight is close to being finalized. The booking of the heavyweight bout has been first reported by MMA Junkie.

Derrick Lewis, currently ranked #3 in the UFC’s heavyweight division, was last seen knocking out Chris Daukaus in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Daukaus which took place on December 12th, 2021. The impressive win set a new record for most KO/TKO wins in the UFC’s history, putting Lewis at number 1, a spot he previously shared with Matt Brown.

UFC’s #11 ranked heavyweight Tai Tuivasa had remarkable success in 2021, winning all 3 of his fights by the way of knockout. His last fight saw him score a stoppage victory over Augusto Sakai early into the second round. Now on a 4-fight winning streak, Tuivasa has all the momentum behind him and a win against Lewis would make him skyrocket to the top of the division’s rankings.

You can expect two guys walking forwards, meeting in the centre of the octagon and throwing down for as long as this one lasts. Don’t expect takedowns, don’t expect 15 minutes, expect carnage.

UFC 271 will take place on Saturday, February 12th, and is headlined by Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
