William Knight Breaks Unwanted Record at UFC 271

The UFC 271 weigh-ins took place earlier today with all but two fighters making weight. Flyweight Alex Perez missed weight by 2lbs but the bout was later cancelled as his opponent, Matt Schnell refused to take the fight.

More surprisingly and in what is one of the most shocking weight misses in UFC history, William Knight has missed weight by a massive 12 lbs. Consequently, he broke the record (unfortunately for him) of the biggest weight miss in UFC history.

The ‘light heavyweight’ has twice fought above 205lbs, however, we’ve only seen him at light heavyweight in the UFC. His UFC 271 opponent, Maxim Grishin (who missed weight in his last bout) has accepted the fight, however, the bout will now take place at heavyweight. Knight will forfeit 40% of his purse in order for the fight to continue and will consequently not be eligible for any post-fight bonuses.

Knight breaks the unwanted record that was previously held by Brazillian, Rafael Alves, who missed weight by 11.5lbs. Alves was scheduled for a 145lbs fight, however, would have missed weight for the weight class above (lightweight), weighing in at 157.5 lbs. More records were broken on the final card of 2021, where heavyweight, Justin Tafa, became the first in his weight class to ever miss weight coming in at 266lbs. Let’s hope this record stands for a long, long time!
