Bellator makes its return to Hawaii with a doubleheader with events taking place on April 22 and April 23.
Bellator Returns to Hawaii for Two Events
Both events, Bellator 278 and 279, will be held inside the Neal S Blaisdell Center and include a few title fights. Although no matchups were announced for Bellator 278, the Bellator 279 card is shaping up pretty nicely. Cris Cyborg will defend her Bellator women’s featherweight title against Arlene Biencowe in a rematch for their first meeting at Bellator 249. In her first title defense, the Brazilian submitted the challenger in the second round via Rear-Naked choke.
Bellator Bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis will also be in action as he faces Raufeon Stots. This will serve both as a title fight and the opening round match of Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix with $1 million prize money. Another first-round matchup of the aforementioned tournament puts the last title challenger for bantamweight gold, Kyoji Horiguchi against Patchy Mix. Japanese superstar will be looking to bounce back after his loss to Pettis and to take another step to regain the title he had to vacate due to injury, while Mix will try to continue his current two-fight winning streak.
Hawaiian fighter IIima-Lei Macfarlane returns to the circular cage to square off against Justine Kish.
All the matchups were reported by the Hawaii news site, khon2 as the promotion will hold a back – to back events just like last time it was present at the islands. In December 2019 Bellator ran two events night after night with Bellator 235 and 236.
The Bellator 278 main card is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. EST and Bellator 279 starts at 9:30 p.m. EST. Both events will air live on Showtime.
