XMMA 4 had a match-up between Nohelin Hernandez and John Sweeney scheduled for the card, however, Hernandez was forced out of action. This is good news for British Columbia’s own Cole Smith, as he will now take on Sweeney.
Cole Smith vs. John Sweeney Added to XMMA 4
After MMA Island originally reported the bout, XMMA posted about the fight on their official Instagram page.
Smith (7-2) has not stepped inside the cage since his 2020 loss to Hunter Azure at UFC Vegas 9. Prior to that loss, the Sound Martial Arts product lost a split decision to Miles Johns. Those were Smith’s lone losses in his MMA career. During his inactivity, he made the move to Kansas City to train under James Krause at Glory MMA & Fitness.
Sweeney (9-3) is riding a three-fight winning streak, with all three of those victories coming in 2021. He started the streak with a TKO against Calvin Harbaugh at Showcase MMA 19, followed that up with a 33-second TKO victory over Dre Miley at XMMA 2 and most recently earned a decision victory over Leonardo Morales at Combate Global in October.
XMMA 4 goes down on April 2 from The Fillmore in New Orleans, Louisiana. The main event is expected to be a match-up between John Dodson and Francisco Riveira Jr. Along with Cole Smith vs. John Sweeney, other notable fights booked for the card are, Kyle Stewart vs. Zak Ottow, John Howard vs. Ange Loosa and Kyle Bochniak vs. Carlton Minus.
