ONE Championship middleweights Aung La N Sang and Yushin Okami continue their push for a match against each other.
Both veterans have been clamoring for a match on social media for over a year, and their calls for a showdown continued this past week.
Okami called the former ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion Aung La N Sang out in 2021, to which the Myanmar superstar responded that it would be an honor. However, the match would not come to be.
But Okami is not letting it go. This week, the Japanese legend took to Instagram for another callout of “The Burmese Python,” writing, “Let’s fight! Let’s decide who is Asia’s No. 1 in the middleweight division.”
Although both men have been calling for the match, there is no bad blood between them. It is more a matchup wanted out of respect and admiration.
“When I thought about making a comeback to the middleweight division, the only fighter I wanted to fight was Aung La N Sang,” Okami told ONE in 2021.
“I knew him before I came to ONE, and I respected him. He was the champion at middleweight and light heavyweight. The content of his fights were great, and I was proud of him as an Asian.”
And Aung La N Sang has shown his admiration for Okami for blazing the trail that he was able to follow.
It is a matchup both middleweights want, and it seems like a prime opportunity to deliver the exciting matchup. However, timing will be crucial, and it remains to be seen if pen will find its way to the paper.
Regardless, a showdown between the two longtime standouts would be a treat for Asian MMA fans.
