It was announced Tuesday morning that Gordon Ryan vs Pedro Marinho would take place at Who’s Number One: Who’s Next Finale on Thursday, July 14 and it would be for the promotion’s heavyweight championship. But wait, Tim Spriggs is the heavyweight champion — not anymore.
FloGrappling.com’s ‘Positive’ Mike made the announcement on Instagram and was instantly flooded with comments about Spriggs being the champ.

“Heavyweight or LHW? Does this mean Tim was stripped?” was asked and Mike answered, “hw, Tim is no longer the champ.”
After a lengthy hiatus from professional grappling due to a stomach illness, Ryan made his return in early 2022 against Jacob Couch. There were no visible side effects or ring rust, as Ryan finished Couch with very tight pressure from the s-mount.
Marinho is looking to capture his second title under the Who’s Number One banner. He won the light heavyweight championship in a referee decision against Craig Jones at the beginning of the year.
Many expected Jones to rematch Spriggs at this event, since the two were rival coaches on the inaugural season of Who’s Next, however, as Mike stated, you ‘can’t force people to compete.’
