At 27 years old, Gordon Ryan has staked his claim as the best grappler of all time. This past weekend, the New Wave Jiu-Jitsu product won the 99+kg division at the 2022 ADCC World Championships. But that wasn’t all, he also went on to compete against Andre Galvao in a super-fight and he won that as well.

After that event concluded, Ryan took to Instagram and went over not only his ADCC credentials but also his entire no-gi career accolades.

Let’s take a look at those below.

ADCC

  • 3 ADCC appearances
  • 20  wins
  • 15 submissions
  • 75% submission rate
  • 1 loss
  • 5  gold medals
  • 3 weight divisions
  • 1 absolute
  • 1 super-fight
  • Silver in absolute
  • Never scored on in 20 wins
  • Only person to win 3 weight classes
  • Only person to ever  win the super-fight and weight division in the same year

No-Gi Record at Black Belt

  • 104-4
  • Over 90% submission rate (Highest Ever)
  • Unbeaten since early 2018
  • Unbeaten in 62 matches
  • 2 Golds at WNO
  • 2 Golds at No-Gi Pans
  • 2 Golds at No-Gi Worlds
  • 4 Golds at ADCC

All of that at just 27 years of age. Impressive to say the least. Even more impressive, a number of those victories came while Ryan was having issues with his stomach.

Following his super-fight victory against  Galvao, he told ADCC commentator Kenny Florian that his stomach was at 70% — imagine what this man could do at 100%.

With jiu-jitsu and grappling, in general, being a fairly niche sport, Gordon Ryan does not get the credit he deserves. But the John  Danaher black belt is arguably one of the greatest athletes of this era.
