ONE Championship will land in the United States for the first time on Friday, May 5. The promotion announced Monday that ONE on Prime Video 10 would emanate from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Atop the marquee is a familiar matchup, Demetrious Johnson vs. Adriano Moraes.
The ONE Flyweight World Championship has been up for grabs in two high-profile events between the two. In the first meeting, in U.S. primetime at ONE on TNT I, Moraes shocked the world with a knockout over Johnson. The rematch would help kick off the Prime Video partnership at ONE on Prime Video 1, and Johnson would exact his revenge with a highlight-reel knockout of his own.
Now the trilogy will be part of ONE’s first-ever on-ground event in the United States. Last July, Colorado officially approved ONE’s ruleset, which includes knees to a grounded opponent. That element was crucial to how the first meeting between Johnson and Moraes played out, with Moraes rocking Johnson with a knee before finishing with additional strikes.
The approved ruleset means ONE will bring their exciting product to the states just as fans have gotten accustomed to seeing it on their screens. It will also mean that the bouts will be scored as a whole. American audiences will get a chance to see them live, in person, for the first time on May 5.
