The recent string of submission grappling matches at ONE Championship have featured jiu-jitsu vs. sambo, but at ONE on Prime Video 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II, judo will have its chance to make some noise. Former strawweight title contender Ayaka Miura will battle American jiu-jitsu ace Danielle Kelly on Friday, February 10, as first reported by MMAFighting.com.
The New Jersey native began her ONE career with a competitive grappling contest against former ONE Atomweight World Title challenger Mei Yamaguchi with the match ending in a draw. However, she would return at ONE on Prime Video 4 to get her first win with a quick submission over Mariia Molchanova. She hopes to keep that momentum going forward by taking out the Japanese star.
Miura has shown her judo skills can be dangerous in her mixed martial arts career. In her four ONE wins, Miura has finished them all with a scarf hold. It would be a shocking upset if she could do it against Kelly in a submission grappling showcase scheduled for early 2023. And if she could get the win, she would take home a big victory for judo back to Japan.
The submission grappling contest will join two outstanding title tilts on the card thus far. Tawanchai PK.Saenchai will defend the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship against Jamal Yusupov while John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade run it back for the vacant ONE Bantamweight World Championship. Fans can expect more exciting bouts to be announced in the near future, and MMASucka.com will have full coverage of the event.
ONE on Prime Video 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II airs live and free on Friday, February 10, to all U.S. and Canadian Amazon Prime subscribers. The action will begin at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.
