Takeru Segawa may be the biggest free agent in the striking game today. The former K-1 World Champion was vocal about his contract expiring last October, and he has yet to sign with anyone else. However, perhaps that may be changing imminently.

The Japanese star spent time at Boxing Works last year, home of ONE Championship stars Jackie Buntan and Janet Todd. And it appears he is back inside the gym to train under the roof that Bryan Popejoy built. But what caught the attention of most is that he was doing so while wearing ONE-branded four-ounce gloves.

The possibility of Takeru joining ONE has got the striking world buzzing. However, there will be one man more excited than most. ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon will be elated should Takeru put pen to paper.

The two striking stars have taken to social media over the past two years to call each other out. Takeru called for the match in 2021, and most recently, Rodtang reiterated his desire for the contest last November, once Takeru became a free agent. It will instantly become the most anticipated bout available if Takeru joins the promotion.

With Takeru’s experience in kickboxing and Muay Thai, ONE offers him a plethora of options to compete in both sports. ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 would be another mouthwatering matchup to see Takeru take. But the possibilities are immense in one of the best divisions in the sport.

Time will tell if there is fire to the smoke. Takeru appears to be getting comfortable striking in four-ounce gloves, but there has been no confirmation yet on where he will land. Regardless, the prospective bouts in ONE leap off the page and make for the most exciting option for the Japanese superstar.
