ONE Championship is back in Singapore to host ONE fight Night 8: Superlek vs. Williams. ONE will showcase their MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing and submission grappling matches throughout the entire card and end the night with two championship bouts in Muay Thai.
ONE’s main event is still alive as Danial Williams steps in on short notice to face Superlek “The Kicking Machine” Kiatmoo9. Superlek is looking to own a collection of belts after winning the ONE’s Bantamweight Kickboxing Title earlier this year. After beating almost everyone he’s faced since joining ONE, the only fighter left for him to face was Rodtang Jitmuangnon. Due to Rodtang suffering an unfortunate injury, Superlek is now preparing to take on a very courageous Danial Williams.
Williams was set to face a completely different opponent before stepping up to the plate big time. The knockout artist has been bouncing between MMA and Muay Thai since joining the promotion with his last 4 fights under the MMA ruleset. In his first Muay Thai match since facing Rodtang Jitmuangnon almost 2 years ago, Williams will attempt to shock the world and steal the belt from Superlek’s grasp.
The ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship is being unified in the co-main tonight when Allycia Hellen Rodrigues and Janet Todd finally square off. After testing positive for COVID prior to their previous matchup, Todd can finally face the only girl left to face in an attempt to unify the interim title she’s held for so long. Todd has been perfect since her debut in the four-ounce gloves with seven wins since joining the promotion. After clearing out an entire division’s worth of talent, Todd is set to face the one obstacle she has left in Allycia Hellen Rodrigues.
Since her majority decision win over Stamp Fairtex back in 2020, Rodrigues has given birth to a son just a year after her big win. Now fighting for something bigger as a new mother, Rodrigues will attempt to defend her throne in the most highly-anticipated match in the division’s history.
Seo Hee Ham (25-8) and Itsuki Hirata (6-1) are also matched up for an important bout in ONE’s atomweight’s division. After winning her rematch against Denise Zamboanga, Ham can finally move on from her controversial split decision and start making a run for the title. Ham’s martial arts journey has gone over 15 years and she’s fought for nearly every major promotion that holds fights in her atomweight division. She’s even had a brief UFC stint where she went 1-3 after having to move up a weight class. Hirata’s judo background has transitioned beautifully since joining ONE utilizing her skillset to rack up 5 wins in such a short span. After an unbelievable comeback performance in her last fight against Heqin Lin, Hirata aims to keep the momentum going in hopes of landing a title shot.
ONE also has a few highly-anticipated debuts going on a bit early on tonight’s card. Featherweight prospect Akbar Abdullaev (8-0) has been on an absolute tear since starting MMA back in 2020. The Kyrgyz fighter has a perfect finishing rate and looks to maintain that in his promotional debut tonight. Former Pancrase Strawweight Champion Keito Yamakita (7-0) will also try to maintain his unbeaten record in the main card opener.
One last name to keep in mind would be Tammi Musumeci, sister of ONE Bantamweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci. The credentialed grappler has won multiple IBJJF championships at the black belt level and is set to make her debut in the opening bout tonight.
MMA Sucka will have live coverage for ONE Fight Night 8: Superlek vs. Williams. Starting with the preliminary card at 7pm ET/4pm PT on ONE Championship’s YouTube and Facebook Page. Followed by the main card at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Amazon Prime Video.
