Demetrious Johnson will step back inside the ONE Championship cage on May 5 against Adriano Moraes.
The former UFC flyweight champion and current ONE flyweight champion will look to defend his title in a trilogy bout at ONE Fight Night 10 in Broomfield, Colorado, the first ONE event on U.S. soil.
“Mighty Mouse” had a retirement plan laid out, however, he spoke with Nick Baldwin from TheScore and stated this could be the last time we see him in MMA action.
“It could be,” Johnson said. “You never know.”
Johnson at one point was said by many, including UFC commentator Joe Rogan, that he was the number one pound for pound fighter on the planet. He has racked up many accolades along the course of his 16 year MMA career, including most wins in UFC wins in UFC flyweight title history (12), most consecutive title defenses in UFC history (11), ONE flyweight world grand prix champion, and current ONE flyweight champion.
“I talk to my close friends who don’t do mixed martial arts and they’re like, ‘What else are you trying to prove?'” Johnson said. “And I’m like, ‘I’m trying to get this money, I’m trying to get this bag.'”
The 36-year-old is a big family man and will look to priorities that following the May 5 fight against Moraes.
“Right now, the kids are at the beach, having a good time, enjoying life, feeding seals, and that’s stuff that I’m missing,” Johnson said. “My kids will only be nine, eight, and four once.
“I think after this fight, I’ll decide what I want to do. I want to compete in IBJJF in my Gi and work toward my black belt. … But I don’t want to fight for two more years. I have no interest. When I hear two more years, I’m like, ‘Ew, that sounds horrible.'”
