The man known for his acting roles in the likes of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, Tom Hardy has earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The 45-year-old had some notable competitions as a blue belt over the past few years and posted that he was promoted in a cryptic Instagram post.

It was then confirmed by the belt manufacturer that he tagged in a follow-up post to their official Instagram account.

Over the years there have been plenty of actors in Hollywood that have fallen in love with the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, including Mario Lopez, Jonah Hill, Ed O’Neill, Ashton Kutcher, Mark Zuckerberg, the late Anthony Bourdain and Demi Lovato.

However, this past year, Hardy became the most notable, competing in a handful of competitions and earning gold medals to boot.

Hardy began training BJJ in 2011 when he was preparing for his MMA movie “Warrior”. The film was based on an MMA fighter and his brother. He fell in love with the sport and began training under the ReOrg BJJ Organization.
