Tammi Musumeci will be looking for her second win on the global stage when she returns to ONE Championship on July 14. The sister of ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci will meet Amanda Alequin at ONE Fight Night 12 in Bangkok. And the multiple-time BJJ World Champion is very familiar with her latest opponent.

“We used to train together a lot, we’re actually close friends. I like her a lot. I think she’s a cool friend,” Musumeci told ONE.

Musumeci’s debut against Bianca Basilio was calculated and methodical. She does not anticipate that being the case in her matchup inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. That has a lot to do with what “Tubby” brings to the table.

The 28-year-old expects the Ecuadorian-American to be aggressive from the opening bell. It is what she has always done before, and it is what brought her to ONE. Her style, according to Musumeci, will lead to a more exciting battle.

“She’s going to come forward, that’s what she does. She goes forward and she attacks. That’s how she’s always been, and that’s what makes her a really good competitor. Win or lose, her matches are always exciting because she doesn’t stop.”

But aggression does not mean being careless. After spending hours on the mats together, the New Jersey native knows she has the technical acumen to be a constant threat from start to finish. She plans to keep her options open and not stick to one set strategy against her friend.

“She’s very technical. She’s always been very technical. She’s an amazing competitor. She has a good guard and also good passing. She’s pretty good everywhere, honestly.”

But training with her opponent is not Musumeci’s only experience with Alequin. The two also had two matches in 2021. Drawing upon her previous wins, Musumeci has an idea of the physical attributes that will make “Tubby” an intriguing puzzle to solve on July 14.

“I just remember her being super aggressive, super flexible too. She used to fight the higher weight classes and now she’s skinnier, but she’s still as strong as when she used to fight those higher weight classes, and long too. So she’s very good at this weight class.”

The strawweight showdown will be a prime opportunity for both women to shine inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Musumeci predicts an all-action scrap and is looking to push her record against Alequin to 3-0. But this time, she wants a finish.

ONE Fight Night 12 airs live on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The action emanates from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The event will be free for all Amazon Prime members based in the U.S. and Canada.
