Combate Global is set to return on Sunday night for one of its biggest shows of the summer. “El Showdown” Mexico vs. USA pits five Mexican fighters against five American fighters, shades of Zuffa-era UFC cards, particularly in foreign markets.
The main event will see American Justin Vasquez battle Roberto Romero Hernandez in the featherweight division.
Fight fans can catch Combate Global streaming live on Paramount+ beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Main Event — Vasquez vs. Romero
Vasquez and Romero were originally scheduled to fight back in March, but Visa issues with Romero forced the bout to be rescheduled four months later. Now that it is finally here, fight fans should be treated to a fun Sunday night scrap to cap off another action-packed weekend of MMA.

Vasquez (10-2) stands out as one of Combate Global’s top fighters and prospects, boasting an impressive array of skills in all facets of MMA. He recently knocked out Alejandro Gavidia with a running knee strike that drew comparisons to Jorge Masvidal’s viral knockout of Ben Askren in the UFC. In spite of this
On Sunday night, Vasquez faces a formidable striker in Romero, who also holds an impressive record with six wins to his name. Both fighters are riding five-fight winning streaks and will have plenty at stake when the door of “La Jaula” closes later this evening. In spite of Vasquez’ recent viral knockout, Romero should be incentivized to keep the fight standing, where he should have his best shot at winning. Vasquez is most dangerous when he’s able to mix things up dictate the terms of the fight. Therefore, the onus will be on Romero to neutralize the grappling, creating a more narrow window for his American adversary.
Rest of the Card
The co-main event will see Ismael Zamora take on Adam Ortiz of the USA. Zamora, 23, trains with the team, Bonebreakers, out of Mexico City, which is also the home of promotional bantamweight champion David Martinez. The gym, which is increasingly becoming of Mexico’s best, and won a $50,000 cash prize as a result of last year’s Combate Global reality show, where they competed against three other gyms. For all the finishing upside he has, Zamora will need to do something that’s never been done: beat Ortiz in pro competition. The 29-year-old American is 6-0 as a pro with finishes in every bout.
Moving down the card, Mexico’s Dulce Vazquez, “La Demoledora,” will make her pro debut against America’s Naomie Young, who is also in search of her first pro win. Elsewhere, Rick Zelada clashses with Miguel Gonzalez in the bantamweight division, while Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc takes on Elizabeth Avila at a 110-pound catchweight.
