A new and busy month of 2023 is underway for MMASucka staff picks.
ONE Fight Night 13 kicks off the month of August later today, the 4th from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Fights will begin for North America viewers at 8:00pm ET (5:00pm PT) on Amazon Prime Video.
Live results from ONE Fight Night 13 will be available here at MMASucka.
Stay tuned later today for more staff picks and predictions as the Professional Fighters League kicks off its playoffs with PFL 7 2023 from San Antonio, Texas. Two additional fight cards are also scheduled in the days ahead with UFC on ESPN 50: Sandhagen vs. Font tomorrow, August 5th from Nashville, Tennessee as well as Dana White’s Contender Series 2023: Week 1 this upcoming Tuesday, August 8th.
The Fights
Only three mixed martial arts fights are scheduled for ONE Fight Night 13. In the featured MMA bout, John Lineker and Jae Woong Kim will clash at a catchweight of 151 pounds. The fight was anticipated to take place at bantamweight, but Lineker missed the divisional mark by six pounds.
Former champion of the weight class, Lineker, targets a rebound after coming up short in February’s vacant divisional championship fight to current king Fabricio Andrade. Today’s fight for the Brazilian veteran comes as his 47th dating back to his professional beginnings in 2008 and, with a victory, would secure his first win since his March of 2022 title knockout over Bibiano Fernandes. Lineker’s opponent, Woong Kim, prepares for his ninth fight with the promotion after signing in mid-2019. A win is much needed with three losses in his last four ONE Championship appearances, but his resume remains strong with his last two wins coming over Martin Nguyen and Kevin Belingon by first-round knockouts in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Heavyweights (265 pounds) on-the-rise will meet between Marcus Almeida and Oumar Kane. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist “Buchecha” Almeida looks to remain undefeated in MMA as he holds four prior victories all by finish inside round one. Senegalese wrestler “Reug Reug” Kane aims for three in-a-row after a successful 2022 handing Batradz Gazzaev and Zhasur Mirzamukhamedov their first losses.
Opening the ONE Fight Night 13 main card sees 21-year-old undefeated Filipino talent Jhanlo Mark Sangiao hoping to continue the hype train against the eight-fight win streak of Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu.
Although not counted towards our picks, two championship fights will take place in both the main and co-main event. Chingiz Allazov looks to defend his Featherweight Kickboxing title in a trilogy bout with former Glory Lightweight Champion and challenger Marat Grigorian roughly ten years after their first two meetings (a “No Contest” in April and an Allazov decision in December of 2013). 27-year-old ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling Champion Mikey Musumeci will try defending his belt for a third time against MMA’s current Strawweight Champion Jarred Brooks.

2023 Staff Picks
MMASucka staff picks are composed of five promotions: the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Bellator MMA, ONE Championship, the Professional Fighters League (PFL), and Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS). UFC and Bellator events feature picks from only main cards. PFL will feature select fights from the main and preliminary card while DWCS sees all fights counted from the event. ONE Championship returns to picks for the first time since 2020 and will feature only mixed martial arts (MMA) fights selected from cards with a minimum three matchups.
The WINNER of staff picks at the end of 2023, who picked the most victorious fighters, will have a choice between receiving a custom-made championship belt from ProAmBelts or a chain from Championship Chains. Staff picks in 2022 was won by Wesley Riddle with a record of 264-135.
