EA UFC 5 – What We Know So Far

EA Sports is set to release EA UFC 5 this year, their first UFC game since 2020. This week, tentative leaks have come out about the game, as well as an extremely short trailer this past weekend. We reviewed the trailer on our YouTube channel, which can be found here:

What We Know So Far

So, let’s start before you even open the game itself. Former flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko is set to be the cover athlete, alongside the featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. Israel Adesanya will be on the cover of the Deluxe Edition.

As per Mike Straw and Inside Gaming, the game will be released on October 27th on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, however, we won’t get a PC version just yet. If you pre-order the game, you get special playable characters, Fedor Emelianenko, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali. The game will also be rated M for mature, rather than teen for the first time, supposedly due to the damage that can be inflicted.

With regards to gameplay, submission mini-games have been removed and been replaced by a newly built system in relation to transitions. There will be eight different regions in which a fighter can suffer bruising, cuts and swelling, an improvement from UFC 4.

In addition, fighters can suffer broken noses, swelled eyes and much more, making the game even more realistic than ever before. These will all effect the fighter throughout the bout itself. Interestingly, there will also be the chance for a doctors stoppage, meaning that fighters cannot always just throw caution to the wind, but must be slightly more tactical.

There will be new cinematic replays for knockouts and as per the Inside Gaming article, there will be “newly created walkouts that look nearly on par with what you’d see when watching actual UFC events.

Finally, there will be a chance for players to compete in an online career mode using created characters in a variety of different weight classes. Fights will be found via skill-based matchmaking. Of course, offline career mode will also be available as per the previous EA UFC games.
