Mighty Mouse Takes Top Spot at IBJJF Masters Worlds

“Mighty Mouse” competed in the Master 2 featherweight brown belt division. The tournament featured nearly 40 competitors in his division, but nobody could topple the ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion. Johnson’s dedication to BJJ over recent years paid off with a big tournament victory.

Johnson won five of his bouts, including the medal match, on points. However, he also was able to pick up one submission via armbar during the tournament. On the podium, he was awarded his second stripe on his brown belt, moving the living legend another step closer to achieving his brown belt.

The victory at the 2023 IBJJF Masters Worlds does beg the question of whether Johnson could compete in ONE’s submission grappling divisions. “Mighty Mouse” has impeccable technique at anything he does, but he also brings incredible athleticism, speed, and sensational wrestling to the table. If he chose to compete, it would be a fascinating matchup against any grappling ace who takes the challenge.

And there would be no shortage of interested parties, including ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci. “Darth Rigatoni” has already called for a match against Johnson on multiple occasions. It is clear he wants the match, and Johnson’s recent tournament win could add some more anticipation to the prospective showdown.

But, for now, the 37-year-old is showing his grappling acumen off in his gi. Johnson’s renewed love for grappling is paying dividends as he continues to win in an entirely new sport. “Mighty Mouse” continues to soar in martial arts no matter the style.
