Zhang Peimian came to ONE Championship as a kickboxing prodigy. His performances did nothing to dispel that notion. However, Jonathan Di Bella bested him for the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship.

As the “Fighting Rooster” continues to inch his way back to a rematch, Zhang will have to take on Rui Botelho at ONE Fight Night 16 on Friday, November 3. After defeating Torepchi Dongak in March, Zhang is eager to get back inside the ring.

“I was so excited when I received the offer because [I am eager to fight again]. I’m preparing for the fight right now. I have been doing lots of training to improve myself,” Zhang told ONE.

Zhang did not shy away from the fact that he is unfamiliar with Botelho’s work. But the Chinese superstar made sure to study the film of his opponent and assess where his skills best match up. In breaking down his opponent, “Fighting Rooster” noticed some areas that could be a cause for concern.

“I don’t know him very well, but I watched some videos of his previous contests after receiving the offer. He is older and more mature than me. He has good technique, and his previous opponents were very good. In addition, he has a weight and height advantage over me,” the Chinese star said.

Although he is keenly aware of specific areas that could give him trouble, Zhang is confident he will get his hand raised. Part of that confidence comes from being a 20-year-old. The youthful exuberance has him ready to utilize his speed to dictate the bout’s tempo.

“Our styles are very different. I’ll be faster than him, and I’ll control the game with high-frequency striking,” Zhang pontificated.

Knowing that a rematch with the Italian-Canadian is on the horizon, Zhang is excited to put on a show for the fans. The “Fighting Rooster” knows he cannot look too far ahead and get caught against Botelho, but the picture is painting itself. Zhang is ready to make his case in Bangkok and set the stage for his second shot at ultimate glory.

“Every fighter wants to win their match, and I’ll try my best. I’m desperate to have the World Title fight, but right now I’m more focused on ONE Fight Night 16. After I win, we’ll see what happens,” Zhang said.

ONE Fight Night 16 airs live on Friday, November 3. The action begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Prime Video. The event is free for all Amazon Prime subscribers based in the U.S. and Canada.
