‘The Bad guy’ may have just confirmed rumours that were swirling regarding a UFC 300 headliner. Chael Sonnen took to Twitter to say:
“Wow. 30+ 300 does in fact equal 3”. This cryptic message has many fans speculating that Sonnen has confirmed the participation of none other than light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira at UFC 300.
Some weeks ago, Pereira put out a similar cryptic message on Instagram stating: “30 +300=3” with a questioning emoji to company the Instagram story.
Cryptic Heavyweight Move?
Fans and media alike have speculated that Alex Pereira’s Instagram story was teasing a potential move up to heavyweight to compete for a title. Let’s not forget, the Brazilian is a huge light heavyweight and looked giant at middleweight. The ’30’ section of his message could refer to the weight he is to put on in order to make the move up to heavyweight.
300 could refer to the historic UFC 300 card that’s coming up on April 13th, live from Las Vegas and Poatan‘s inclusion on the card.
The ‘3’ in his message could be his hint at getting a third belt in a third division. Let’s not forget, Pereira knocked out Israel Adesanya in November 2022 to capture middleweight gold. After losing the rematch, he moved up to light heavyweight. Picking up a single win before competing for the belt, Pereira was able to rally from a tough first round to knock out Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295, capturing a second belt in as many weight classes. A move up to heavyweight would potentially see him compete for a third belt after just eight UFC bouts.
All of these rumours have been stoked up after the interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall claimed that it was unfair that Stipe Miocic was getting a undisputed title shot ahead of him.
Could we see Tom Aspinall vs Alex Pereira for the interim heavyweight strap as the UFC 300 main event?
