UFC 300 keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Fights are getting booked left and right as the MMA world-leader approaches Apr. 13. CEO Dana White has promised to put on a card for the ages, one that will see former world champs slug it out in Sin City.
Ex-UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt will reportedly take on two-time UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 300. The news of the bantamweight bout was first broken by Ag Fight on Thursday.
There’s History Here
This isn’t the first time Garbrandt and Figueiredo have been booked to fight each other. In 2020, Garbrandt was to supposed challenge Figueiredo for the flyweight title at UFC 255. Unfortunately for ‘No Love’, he was forced to withdraw due to a torn bicep and ultimately lost out on his immediate title shot.
The Lead-Up
Garbrandt is 2-2 since his cancelled fight with Figueiredo. The former champ lost to top contenders Rob Font and Kai Kara-France before rebounding in bouts against Trevin Jones and Brian Kelleher.
After many years fighting at flyweight, Figueiredo has found a new home in the bantamweight division. In his first test at 135lbs, the Brazilian put on a dominant showing against Rob Font at UFC Austin in December.
Prior to that, Figueiredo was stuck fighting former champ Brandon Moreno in a weight class below. The two rivals ended up fighting a total of four times, with all of those bouts being back-to-back for Figueiredo. Figueiredo went 1-2-1 in the super rare UFC quadrilogy.
Both Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo will look to inch closer to a title shot with a win in Las Vegas.
