UFC continues to build their event of the year and now we have Dana White announcing two more epic scraps for 300. It has been rumored that a possible climb up to 155 is next for the former featherweight king, Max Holloway. Now, it’s official and he’ll go up against none other than the current BMF champion – Justin Gaethje.
In addition to this banger between the two absolute elites, UFC president had announced that the April PPV will see the return of a UFC icon, who just recently fought at the first event of 2024. – Jim Miller. Miller is an often-seen name in UFC’s record books and his longevity in the company is something to be admired. He takes on Bobby Green, another long-time veteran of the UFC.
UFC 300: Max Holloway goes up to 155 for a highly-anticipated scrap vs Gaethje
For the past several years and since losing those rematches against Alexander Volkanovski, fans were expecting to see Max Holloway make a shift to UFC’s 155 lbs division.
Max did go up and tried to grab the interim LW title in the past, when he was the reigning featherweight champ with multiple title defenses to his name, in 2019. In an epic rematch against Dustin Poirier, little was between the two competitors and it seemed like ‘Diamond’ edged out the victory, because of the more damaging shots landing for him. A very competitive and action-packed fight, nonetheless.
Max was on a 13-fight win streak, prior to the Poirier defeat. With that legendary streak of wins and multiple championship defenses – Holloway is definitely one of the greatest FW fighters of all time. Just by looking at his resume and knowing how he performs inside that octagon – ‘Blessed’ can definitely be talked about as one of the greats of the game.
With a matrix-like performance against Calvin Kattar, beatdowns of Brian Ortega, Jose Aldo, Anthony Pettis and his most recent KO win over Chan Sung Jung, Holloway is known to be a walking highlight. When mentioning the highlight, let’s talk about a man who carries that nickname, loud and proud. The other half of this epic battle – the current BMF champion, Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje.
Justin Gaethje is on a roll, but finds himself in an interesting position
Lightweight has been the most stacked division for the past several years, according to most fans and analysts. Sometimes, it looks like it can get ‘crowded’ at the top of the division. As a result, Justin Gaethje finds himself in a sort of a limbo, which can be resolved with a potential win against Max Holloway in April.
‘The Highlight’ is on a 2-fight winning streak, but what tremendous wins those fights were! First, Gaethje went up against Rafael Fiziev, who was slated as the next big thing in the LW division, even being the betting favorite according to the bookmakers. Justin answered by taking a clear-cut decision victory over ‘Ataman’, in an amazing striking display, which had the American showcase his power and movement. He even took Fiziev down and showed some of that wrestling background.
His last fight though, a knockout of the year according to many fans and media outlets, saw him avenge a loss that he had suffered couple of years prior vs Poirier. The 2nd round head kick KO has put Justin Gaethje in a position to contend for Makhachev’s lightweight title.
However, another guy comes into that equation, as one of the most exciting fighters on the whole roster and a former champion, Charles Oliveira, awaits another crack at the LW championship. It’s almost certain that with a win against Holloway, nothing would deny Gaethje’s number 1 contender spot. That being said, it’s most likely ‘Do Bronx’ who gets the shot, first.
In conclusion, everyone knows what these two bad MFs bring to the cage and these types of matchups are why we love the sport of MMA, and the UFC as an organization so much.
Record-breaker Jim Miller returns at UFC 300 vs Bobby Green
Jim Miller had just recently fought and defeated Gabriel Benitez, via 3rd round submission, extending his record of most wins in UFC history to 26. Jim Miller is a true, walking icon in the sport of MMA. Unparalleled longevity and multiple key records that he holds to his name. Other than most wins, Miller also holds the record for most bouts in the organization’s history – 43.
His opponent for the historic UFC 300 card is going to be another veteran who’s still going strong – Bobby ‘King’ Green. With over 20 fights in the UFC, Green is at almost 38 years old and still in the top 15 of the UFC’s LW division, ranked #14 right now. His last fight has been rough though, as he suffered a brutal KO loss against Jalin Turner. A fight that saw Green take (according to most) multiple unnecessary shots, while he was on the ground.
Wishing both men good luck, good health and to see them after 300 still going strong!
