The UFC 306 main event between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili could be under threat after the challenger, Dvashvilli suffered a cut in training and took to Instagram to show it off.

The Georgian captioned his post stating:

“Calm down – its all good- just a little training injury. Never pulled out of a fight – and Never will! I’m coming for you O’Malley – stronger than ever 🦾🇬🇪🇲🇽🇺🇸 Vamos! “

However, it isn’t up to the challenger to be the one to pull out of the fight. If the cut opens up again and requires further stitches, it may be taken out of his hands and put into the hands of the UFC doctors.

The bantamweight champion, Suga Sean O’Malley is clearly concerned about the situation too. He took to X and put:

“This little fuckin rat better not pull out I swear to god.”

UFC president, Dana White is certainly not happy about the situation either.

Speaking after the Contender Series last night, White said:
“Our guys are so dumb, it’s next-level unbelievable. … It is next-level stupid”.

Realistically, the fight shouldn’t be in jeopardy. The fight is a little under a month away and as long as Dvashvilli is sensible with his training, the cut should heal fine and he should be able to make the walk to the octagon in the Sphere. With that being said, how it could effect him in the fight with such a sharpshooter like O’Malley is another question. That’s a puzzle he will have to figure out on fight night, however.

UFC 306, aka Noche UFC, takes place on September 14th and is the promotion’s highly anticipated debut at Sphere in Las Vegas. The card is headlined by the title fight between O’Malley and Dvashvilli, with the co-main event being the trilogy between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko for the women’s 125lbs belt.

Elsewhere, Diego Lopes and Brian Ortega meet at featherweight as well as a whole host of other Mexican talent. UFC 306 will go head to head on the same night with Canelo Alvarez as he takes on Edgar Berlanga in the T-Mobile Arena, also in Las Vegas.
